I just wore our my first thumb pick (National). The only reason I mention this is when I was a kid I had the same bar and picks for the 2 or 3 years that I played. I used to enjoy playing but hated to practice, now practicing is the best part of my day. When I wear out a bar I will really be getting somewhere with my playing! |

Hey Gary, that's cute. I never thought of wearing out a bar!!!! Funny, I play regularly and have had the plastic thumb pick for years, like for 15 or so if not more. Mind you I have one set for the steel and a different set for the Dobro. I must be a light picker!! |

Yep, that's like a built in indicater or gauge, and it's not optional! |

By the way, when you get ready for a new plastic thumb pick and you want it to fit just right, do the following.
Boil some water. Turn on the cold water in your sink. Drop plastic thumb pick into the boiling water for a few secons and it will start to unfold. Grab it out (not with you hand obviously) and stick it on your thumb while it's still hot (this will hurt some) and quickly get it under the running cold water. It will "freeze" into watever position it was in when it entered the cold water. And hopefully, you'll get into the cold water before it burns your thumb.

Either use your formula -- or just buy one that fits. |

You know, I've seen some guys have their finger picks bent around the ends of their fingers(I do this and play kinda hard sometimes) and I've seen guys have the finger picks sticking kinda out and not touching the ends of their fingers. Is there any set rule on this, or is this just personal preference? |
