There's some fascinating info here about Frank Ferera - kind of the Kenny G of his day in the sense that he was a very popular instrumentalist . He was the most-recorded lap steel guitarist from about 1915 through about 1930.

Wow! What an interesting site!!! I still have many Ferera-Louise (along with partners Franchini, Paaluhi), old 78's and indeed, it was Frank Ferera's haunting music which caught my attention and interest in the steel guitar back in 1942. I listened to those old records for hours. I had no idea he was married to Louise and certainly did not know of her "mysterious" death aboard ship. This is a 'must-read' for any serious steel guitarist...it's 'our' history. Possibly the only omission of note would be that of Tau Moe, (now 93), who knew and probably played with many of the names mentioned in the article. Thanks ever so much Andy!

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the great post. I always wondered about the spelling of Ferera. Jeez, no wonder you see so many of his 78s--he made a lot of recordings!

You've piqued my interest in Mr. Gracyk's book too. And of course, I'm looking forward to yours. Is it done yet? Just kidding.

Happy Holidays,

Bob
