...if we can't use this place for ALL the GOOD it can produce, then what CAN we use it for??
Dick Sanft and I were suppose to play a 1-hour gig next Friday morning for a private luncheon at a local Roy's Restaurant. I got a call from the agent saying that Dick's wife suddenly became very ill, was rushed to the hospital, and that he would not be able to do the gig.
Dick called me last night, and I talked with him for some length on the phone. It seems that his wife Ruth suddenly became very ill, and is in need of a liver transplant. She is in the hospital right now awaiting a donor. We all know what this means: someone with a healthy liver needs to pass on, in order for her to get a transplant. A very sad situation, indeed.
Now, not that we're praying for someone's passing (and I am NOT advocating that). However, in the event of that sad moment for some family out there, out of tragedy can come hope and life for another family in need.
Anyway, I told Dick that my wife and I would be praying for her to come through, and for a speed recovery. He said thank you, and said that every extra prayer helps.
Dick doesn't know that I'm posting this (and I'd prefer to keep it that way, please), but if any here are so inclined, please pray for them. I don't mean to invade their privacy, and if I am, please forgive me. That is not my intent.
My wife and I had an experience with a couple that we know about 2 years ago. They had just had a son (about a year old at the time). The wife in that case had to have a MAJOR and very invasive brain surgery to remove a tumor. Through another music forum that I frequent (a very close group, too, I might add), we collectively sent many prayers and positive thoughts. Whether you believe it helped or not is up to you, but I choose to believe it DID help. She fully recovered, AND gave birth to a daughter about a year later!
I'm a firm believer in the power of collective prayer, and of prayer in general. And by prayer, I mean whatever THAT means to YOU. We're all of differing (and in some cases, none) faiths here.
Again, if you are so inclined, please pray for them.
Thank you,
TJW |

Todd,
Thanks for the post. Please give my best to the Sanfts. Mrs. Sanft was always a gracious hostess when I visited Dick.
I'm forwarding this link to Chuck Campbell. He and Dick really hit it off at the 2nd Sacred Steel Convention in Sanford.
Best,
Bob |

If you are talking with Dick, please pass along my Aloha to him and inform him my prayers are with his wife. Sad it had to happen at Christmas time, (or even at all).
Dick is a great guy, a fine steel man. Those of you who have not heard him should try to locate some of the old lp's he made when he was playing at Disney World. |

Bob, Jody and George -- Thank you for you thoughts and prayers. I will certainly pass on your sentiments to Dick and Ruth.
George, you're right -- Dick is great guy, and plays beautiful steel. He's the real deal. I love his touch, and the colors he uses. Oh yes -- he has asked me if I would like to record a new CD with him! I'm pretty excited about that. Not sure when we'll do it, of course, as there are much more pressing issues right now.
