I see several members asking how to post links to MP3 files on the Forum and I will try to explain the process here.

First of all, the SGF does not host media files for you. We allow you to embed links in your Posts and Replies, but you must host the actual files elsewhere. The location of the hosting service is up to you. It might be free online "storage space" provided by your ISP (Comcase, ATT, Earthlink, Yahoo!, etc), or paid hosting, such as is used to serve web pages and auxillary files.

If you have free online space provided by your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and do not have a website, you would be smart to upload your sound clips to that free space and find out how to link to those files from a browser. Once you have that information (ask your ISP) you can place a link to the file on a SGF Post or reply, using the standard URL tagset: location_of_file

Where I have "location_of_file" you would remove the spaces and substitute the actual URL, beginning with "http" or "www" or "ftp" as instructed by your ISP or hosting service. If you need more information about how to login to and access your free space, ask your ISP, or search their support FAQs. The password that is required will almost certainly be the same one you use to sign onto the service to browse the Internet, whether dialup or broadband. Your URL on a free service will probably include your account name, maybe with a tilde before it; e.g. prefix.YourISP.net/~YourAccountName/FolderName/filename.ext

Our UBB Codes are fully documented here.
