Are there known issues of this being an invasive or disruptive utility?
I have still been suffering from really bad computer performance with frequent 10-20 second freeze-ups almost every time I click on anything. I just 'paused' the Google indexing function and, for the moment things seem dramatically better. I know better than to declare victory---I've had hopes dashed too many times---but this looks promising. I'll ditch this Google crawler in a split second if it is to blame. I love being able to search my own computer---a disaster of misfiled scraps and detritus--- but this computer won't be of much use to me if it finds itself sailing out the window (I'm close).

Man, I'm just about convinced that this is the root of all my troubles (computer related, anyway). I will await any info regarding how I might be able to run the Google Desktop utility in such a way as to not screw everything up before ditching it entirely but with the indexing function paused, all system performance is back to normal. I'm sold.
Back to the initial question--any known issues of conflicts between Goog (and evil) and anything/everything else?

Jon,
I had the same situation. I deleted Google Desktop and tool bars completely. End of problem!!!! I use Google manually without problems.

Yeah--there's no maybe about it, now. Google is gone. I don't know what the conflict was or why it suddenly became an issue after a year of running Google (although I suspect it was slowing me down in more subtle ways) but I've gone from a really messed up system to one that is purring along just fine. Why ask why.

Jon;
I do believe that one of the last few Windows Updates caused problems with Google Desktop Search. I'll search my blog and post a link if I find the explanation. It might be related to the Verclsid.exe issue...

Here is the permalink to my blog post about the effects of verclsid

Users of Google Desktop Search or Google Toolbar should update them as soon as possible to resolve these incompatabilities.

I'll be curious, Wiz--not unlikely since that would be one of the downloads I do without any consideration of consequences---I'm simply not going to pretend to be up to the task of researching the potential downsides of MS patches.
I appreciate your help on my other thread about my computer problems. I hope that my "fix" here can add to some knowledge base somewhere.

I've got your backs on this, albeit sometimes after patches have been released. When I discover trouble caused by a Microsoft Update patch I try to reveal it as soon as possible, along with temporary workarounds, until MS releases a patch for their patch.

Everything inputted and replied to here is of value to somebody somewhere who is searching for answers to their own computer problems. We are in search engine results in all the major indexes and this forum is read by non-members around the world, and possibly in Outer Space (news really travels these days).
