1st, I want to say thank you for previously posting the pix of this fabulous guitar. 2nd, is this the guitar that had the door hinge in place as a string damper? if so, where exactly was it located? I know he would flick it on/off with his finger while playing, and was curious how in/convenient this manuever would have been. 3rd, did you ever post your pic of Joaq w/the Plainsmen that was mentioned a while back? Thanx again!

Ron, I don't know about the door hinge guitar. It doesn't sound like something Bigsby would have done. I'll e-mail you a jpeg of the photo--Chas

I just did a session on a tune called "Christmas In Hawaii" with the Murph Bigsby through a '59 Standel with an Altec 418. The playing was ok, the sound was fabulous.

It was 'installed' by Murph himself(or he had someone do it). Definately not Bigsbyesque! I got the info from an article on Joaq called The Journal of Country Music(vol. 22.1)by Kenneth Rainey, with D.Yoakum on the cover from half a year ago. A real good issue/mag. with an interesting article about Red Kirk and a photo that includes Howard White in '51. About your session, will it be commercially available? Hardly a better way to spend the holidays (esspecially IN Hawaii) than to hear something like that! And thanx again for the great pic, it's already my favorite Christmas present.
