Some time ago, I saw that someone needed a printhead for a Canon printer. As it happens, so did I. I inquired about this with Canon and their price was US$97.00 plus whatever shipping and handling they can gouge out of a customer. My need is for a Canon P/N; QY6-0042 printhead. Some searching brought me to:
www.Inkcessories.com

Cost was US$57.95, free shipping and no abhorrent sales tax.

This is certainly less than the cost of new printer since my printer originally cost US$250.00. Since I fill my own ink tanks, an inkjet is far cheaper to maintain than a laser printer.

With respect to purchasing a new printer for little more than I paid for a printhead, permit me to say that if there is a printer that can stand-alone fax, scan in color, copy in either color or B&W, and make photo quality color prints, I may have considered such a purchase. However, for US$60 my Canon printer was restored to first class service in less than five minutes.

It may have been me. The printhead in the i560s I had went bad. I didn't want to pay the price plus I had a second printer, an Epson R300 which I was using primarily because it will print directly on (ink jet printable) CD's and DVD's. That was several months ago so the Canon is long gone. I don't really miss it as the Epson does a better job on photo printing than the Canon did.

ADDED: One thing that can contribute to print head failure/clogging is refilled cartridges. It may be cheaper to refill the cartridges but if it results in having to replace the printhead or other printout problems it may not be worth it. I do part-time PC support and ALL the people I support are using OEM cartridges. Some tried the refill route and everyone had problems of one type or another and decided it wasn't worth all the problems.

Robert, have you checked the price of a printer lately? Canon's MP150 printer-copier-scanner is available for about $85, and their photo printer iP1600 is available for under $50! When the Canon printer I paid $400 for 6 or 7 years ago went bad, I bought a far better and faster model for less than 1/3 of that (about $115), and they're even less now.

Something to think about, anyway.
