Subject: MS AntiSpyware Beta (1.0.701)

The latest beta refresh, build 1.0.701, extends the Windows AntiSpyware beta expiration date to July 31, 2006 and provides new signature updates to help protect against recently identified spyware.

Existing users of the beta (Build 1.0.615) will receive a software update that includes the new beta refresh. The latest beta refresh is also available for download through this site.

Microsoft would like to encourage all Windows AntiSpyware (beta) users to download and install the new update (Build 1.0.701).

It may take a few more hours before the old version is flushed from the web cache. I tried to upgrade and got the previous version. This is a known issue. Try again in a few hours if you get the old version.

This new MSAS engine is better able to remove rootkits, including the Sony XCP DRM rootkit.

So it appears that build 1.0.615 (which replaced the version that expired mid 2005) and is scheduled to expire on 12/31/05 is being replaced early, probably so the rootkit remover can be distributed.

Partially yes. This is a beta product that is being tested by Microsoft MVPs and Beta Testers, and thier input leads to occasional program updates. The new MSAS engine will be more effective all around, not just in detecting the First4Internet/Sony Rootkit.

If the MS download site isn't updated soon enough for your druthers, you can get the new version at Majorgeeks.com
