For Noel's solo recordings, it's a pretty good example. He didn't really record too much as a leader until those late 50's Shasta recordings. The cd represents well what he was doing during that time; played six nights a week in Hollywood's Plaza Hotel's lounge, all kinds of music. A great example of his earlier work as a sideman is the recent Hank Penny cd "Crazy Rhythm" on Bloodshot. It has Noel all over it.

I agree that the Shasta recordings are representative of Boggs later playing.

He played some wonderful solos with Bob Wills too. The ones to get are the Tiffany Transcriptions which were cut in San Francisco for radio play. I've heard 5 or 6 of the CDs in the series and IMHO Vol 5 is the one to get:

The Best Of The Best, was to hear Noel playing
live. And meeting him was equally as great as
his playing.
