I have Guitar Map program which is not running right. I tried to un install it but the program says
"Could not open logfile"C:\program files\steel\st6unst'
I tried the Add/Remove program and always get the same message above.

Any help on this would be appreciated...thanks....al

Delete the directory with the program's files and search the registry for the program. Delete any references to it.

Al, avoid the registry unless you know what you are doing. One wrong deletion and you are looking at reinstalling the OS. Finding and removing all traces of a program, even for an experienced tech, is a major task.

Do you have the installation program, for tht program? Usually when files are missing and you can't uninstall a program, reinstall it and then you can do the "orderly" uninstall.

Hi Jack-Thanks for your help. No, I don't have the install program. I can see if I had that, it might work. I had a problem with my Norton once, and re installed it and that took care of it. So your idea will probably work.
Does anyone have the Guitar Map Program install that I can use, to follow Jack's advice?. Thanks again......al

I'll second Al's question to Gary; I've always avoided the registry, but there are some things that have to go.

Perhaps what you're uninstalling is some sort of spyware? I saw this reference when I searched for s6unst using Google: http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/spyware.wintective.html

Thanks Forum Members for the advice and help, I appreciate it.

I sent Karlis an Email and he sent a Email back and told me how to delete the Guitar Map Program.

However , he said that the files will still be listed in the Add/Remove program, but will be inactive, and still can't be removed from the list. I wonder why not?...al
