I just downloaded the newest ZA upgrade and couldn't get on-line. I had to turn it off to get on. So, I uninstalled it. I checked with download.com and only 6.0 is available. I just downloaded SP2 for Win XP and it has a firewall but probably not as good as ZA. Anyone use the newest ZA version?

I just installed the latest update last week. It said to do a fresh install instead of an update. That turned out to be a nuisance, as it "forgot" all of my settings.
But generally, ZoneAlarm is really good. It's the only computer protection program I use. I like the way it informs me whenever a program tries to access the internet. Some legit programs have modules that phone home, and I would have never known about them without ZoneAlarm.

I'm considering uninstalling SP2 and go back with ZA. I only did SP2 to get popup blocker, but I can use another program, they are available. I was just checking in control panel, and SP2 is there if I want to remove it. I don't think WinXP firewall is as good as ZA.

The WinXP firewall won't tell you when a Microsoft program on your machine is trying to phone home. ZoneAlarm will. |

Well, I guess it's good to know that I'm not the only one who's settings were lost during the new install. |

What I did was uninstall SP2 and install ZA 6. Everything seems fine again. MS suggests checking again if I need to download any critical patches. |

Ron;
You un-necessarily screwed the pooch by uninstalling SP2. All you had to do was turn OFF the Windows XP Firewall. You would still be able to benefit from all the other enhancements provided by SP2, including a lot of security patches that will not be available for previous SP levels.

I was getting two different popup messages, one in IE and one in Outlook. It was getting too annoying. That's why I removed it. |
