I'm running Win98SE and I recently installed Firefox. Lately I discovered it won't play WMA or WMV files. The files download and the player displays the name and the time, but there's no audio. What can I do to get it playing?

I wouldn't care, except some people post music files in WMA format and I'd like to listen.

WMA files are a recent (last couple of years) Microsoft alternative to MP3.

Older operating systems such as Win98 came out before WMA was introduced. If you have a recent Media Player, it should support wma files. Windows Media Player 9 and 10 support it, as do recent versions of MusicMatch Jukebox, Winamp, etc. Your only concern is finding a media player that is compatible with Win98/98SE/ME

At the top of Windows Media Player, click Help, then click About Windows Media Player. That will tell you what version you've got. If you've got an old one you can go back to Help, then click Check for Player Updates. That should get you going.
