Help. I have some songs recorded in wav and they are too big to email, etc. How can I transfer these songs(files) to MP3.? I understand that is the best way, so the files are not too big to Email and they load and unload a lot faster, is that correct.?
I have several trial Recording programs and if I record with one program, and want to manipulate with another program, it wont pull up my files to do this. It seems that one program will not talk to a competing
program.
If we didn't have a standard like MS Windows, we wouldn't be able to talk to each other.
So far in my experience, we don't have a complete recording program that does what we want in simple terms that we understand and dont need to go back to college to learn
and is fairly inexpensive. Just think , if they sold 10 million programs for $10.00 each, in the whole world, they would make 100 Million dollars.Wow!.....al

Al:
Try db Power Amp http://www.dbpoweramp.com/
They have a wav to MP3 converter that I use all the time. It is a very easy intuitive program that converts in a flash.
They offer a trial version free with limitations in the application.
Its an inexpensive program that can probably fulfill your needs.

I downloaded something which was completely free at the tucows website, I think. Sorry, it's on my other system, and I don't remember the name, but they've got an easily searchable site and lots of freeware. |

Al, here is a terrific free program called audacity that will convert, and also let you trim songs to make short clips, as well as much more if you need it. here is the link:

Here's the link to download AudioGrabber. http://www.audiograbber.com-us.net/
Audiograbber is a CD "ripping" program (copy songs from CD's) that will either rip them as wav or MP3. However, it has an additional feature of converting wav's to MP3's, either one at a time or you can select several and convert them all (it will create a new mp3 file, it won't delete the wav file).
This used to be shareware but was made freeware about a year ago.
I've used it (bought it when it was shareware) and I know b0b also uses this program.
As far as one program "talking" to another. Many programs will, by default save the audio file as it's proprietary format - some such as recording software must do this so you can relaod and edit the recorded file. Once it's "mixed" to a stereo wav or mp3, it can't be "unmixed" to separate tracks. e.g. if you have 6 tracks for a recording and you save it in the recording programs format you can then retrieve it and continue recording editing of individual tracks, etc. If it's saved as wav or MP3 you can't do that.
wav, mp3 and to a lesser extent wma are the "standard" audio files and are transportable to most PC's, regardless of the type (Windows, MAC, Linux). Wav files are "full fidelity" files, mp3 (most bitrates) and wma files are compressed files and something less than full fidelity (and if you have an mp3 file and convert it to a wav you will not recover the full fidelity - once it's gone it can't be recovered). |

It sounds like you may have a conflict on your machine wiht some of your audio sofware.I can recomend Nero wave editor avaiaable from www.nero.com. it comes in a complete package The programme is very realiable and stable for copying and data back up. You can try a trail download for a month before buy. to use wave edito its a si9mple case of going to open files and folders choiseing your said wave file then saving
in mp3 format talos iis an options to set the mp3 quality higher the quality he bigger he file. The other recomendation is
Total Recorder this works in a similar mammor http://www.highcriteria.com/
is where you will find this I use this to record of the inernet( for folks who have no computer or net access) the quality
is pretty good. Real Player has a similar feature but I doon't think it uses MP3 has its own much like media player has wma files.

Al, you may also want to consider the purchase of MUSICMATCH..about $30...this program oes it all and burns CD's from the playlist as well.
It also allows you to select the size of the MP3 conversions and keep track of playlists, burn lists etc...

Tony-Thanks, I appreciat it.
I have Music Match but I will get the new plus so I can hopefully split and rename tracks. It does seem to have it all together. Where else can you get such excellent advice like this for Steelers..
Maybe this one will do for this old duffer. I don't need all the bells and whistles that the other programs have....al

I've always used Musicmatch for converting wavs to mp3s, still do, and I've never had to buy the Plus version...why should Al? The free version converts files just fine. |
