I frequently burn CD's and DVD's and I find the glossy, white labels are by far the best to use as far as printing is concerned. They reslult in clear, crips lettering from my inkjet printer.

But because of the very high cost (twice as much as the CD itself), I am trying to use the 'white matte' labels--they are much, much cheaper. While printing, this matte material will absorb much of the ink and will blur the lettering.

Is there a solution for this using the white matte labels? I don't want to spend the money for the glossys except for select projects.

Thx

"Paper" labels are becoming a thing of the past. Most automobile manufactures put a warning in the owners manual for in-dash CD players to NOT use paper labels.

I have quit using them as I have two CD's I sell at concerts (and one is available here on the Forum). I have an Epson R300 printer that will print directly on the CD or DVD (you must have discs that are "ink jet printable").

b0b mentioned he too has an Epson and so have a couple of others.

I really like the matte finish ones. The glossy ones wanted to smear. I use an Epson CX5200 printer and get excellent results, not blurry at all.

Have you looked into the on-disk labeling printers? You can them pretty cheap now.

I work for Avery, the big label company, and I can get labels for free when I need them. I don't use them anymore, though. I bought an Epson R200 for $100 at Office Depot. Printed CDs look so much better than paper label ones, and there's no issue with them at all.

I guess this is the next step. I have a HP Deskjet 540 that I really like. I've had it for a number of years and it has proven to be extremely reliable. I don't want to get rid of it simply because of this problem.

Same here. Printers today use USB instead of the parallel port. You can hook up as many as you need. I only use the Epson for CDs - nothing else. It folds up to a small footprint on my desk when it's not in use.
