I just had to replace two computers in my office. They came with XP Professional installed.
I received the reinstallation CD for XP with each computer. Can I use this XP CD on my home computer to replace the crappy ME I currently have? I'm not trying to be an el-cheapo, but since I already paid for these, I was hoping to replace my home OS with XP. |

One PC, One copy of Windoze...

Those two you paid for have already been installed on the boxes that were delivered. You may be better off, and certainly more legal, to buy the upgrade if it's still available. My daughter's shipped about 4 years ago with ME and an upgrade coupon for XP when available. Hers is XP Home, not Professional.
This might not be saying much, but XP is by far the most stable Windows OS I've used. I have no complaints, except they should include the backup exec in XP Home as it is in XP Pro. I'm betting their third-party partners have conspired with them on that limitation.

| The backup system utility is indeed available with WinXP Home, but you have to find it on the CD and install it as a separate item. I have no idea why. |

XP, Home or Pro, that is deliverd with a new PC (OEM Version) does not have to be activated (it can be but doesn't have to).
I know this is true of Dell and Gateway. |
