Al,
Merry Xmas. First, send an attachment that you have sent before. Send it to yourself. If that works. The make sure that the new attachment is not too large for your ISP's server. Some will not accept attached files larger than 1 meg. Also make sure that you have removed all of the emails and attachments sent to you from your ISP's server. If all fails try Thunderbird, Mozilla's email client. If that works, save the outlook emails you want and reinstall it.

I don't use O.E., I use Outlook, but I couldn't find any option in O.E 6. in reference to sending attachments. There is an option in O.E 6 to allow or disallow attachments on RECEIVED mail, but nothing for sending.

Doublecheck Norton to make sure nothing in Norton is set to disallow attachments or certain types of attachments.

ADDED: One other thought. Spyware, malware, etc can cause many potential system problems. Do a scan with AdAware or SpyBot (I prefer AdAware as SpyBot has been known to identifiy "real" system files as spyware). There are other "hijack" programs etc, that may be applicable too.

If you have Windows XP or Windows ME, you could use the "System Restore" feature and restore your PC to a date/time PRIOR to having the problems and see if that fixes it (System Restore has a feature that will let you go back to your "unrestored" setup if that is not the problem).

What error message are you getting, Al? You haven't really described what happens when you try to add an attachment to your email.

Personnally, I think that Norton is a virus. Ever try to get rid of it? Ug!

Hi Guys-Thanks for all the help, I appreciate it and will try all your ideas.

Bobby-here is the message I get on my email message when I send it. then read it back...

"OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: al's S12 Millenium 017.jpg"

Nothing been changed, I sent pictures before and It worked and I never got that mesage. I have had Norton for over a year.No problems before. They scan all my outgoing mail, when I send it. I suppose they scan the incoming too. My ISP Downtown in Cedar Springs, Scans all my incoming Email and quarantines any suspicious ones. they still allow me to look at it without opening it on my computer, then I can accept it or ask it to be removed. They also catch all the junk mail before it gets to me.And I can safely look at it and see if I want to let it in my inbox. If I don't respond in 14 days, they delete it. I like the system, seems to work fine for me. They also allow me a large storage area, more than I ever need.....thanks again...Mery Christmas...al

AHA!!

Mystery solved. Your outgoing attachements are OK. You have the Security setting so it will not allow attachments on RECEIVED mail.

In O.E., Click on Tools, then Options. Click the Security Tab and then Uncheck the box for "Do not Allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentiall be a virus". Then click Apply, then OK.

Jack-That did it!! Thanks very much.
I remember a couple of days ago, I thought by checking that box, it would make me more secure, but I see I was wrong.

Darn Jack, you beat me to it ! I've also noticed that on my XP, the new service pack 2 has played havoc with both my IE6 and my outlook express. I've had to change quite a few settings to get around it. It's a bit of a hassle to have to find all the changes you need to make when the Gates bunch feeds you all this stuff and doesn't tell you what it's going to do. I'm thinking of using Firefox as my main browser and shifting IE6 to my backup browser !

John, I have firefox loaded on my PC but don't use it as my primary browser. It does have some issues on sites that were created primarily for Microsoft products.
e.g. I had to remove/modifiy some items on my web page because Firefox wouldn't display them or display them correctly. I use FrontPage 2000 to generate/maintain my web site and never thought about any issues until I tried it with Firefox. There are a couple of other sites that I've tried that also have some issues with Firefox.
