Outlook Express Password Dumlemma

I recently bought a new eMachines pc and I'm back to using OE again. (for the time being)

And right off the git-go I was reminded why I don't like OE.

A LOGON flag pops up before you can access OE. It has my username in there, but is looking for the password. The box "remember password?" is checked off, but the whole line is grayed-out.

Well, needless to say, it doesn't remember the password. I've checked out all those options in ACCOUNTS all to no avail.

I just want to get rid of it completely.

My OS now is Windows XP [Home Version].

I'm pretty sure we've all been over this one before, and I went 'asearchin', but with no luck.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I would try to delete the accounts and create new ones.

I think a dumlemma would describe, ahem,
a dummy, and a dah-lemma would refer to da
two knuckleheads in da foyah.

I've been out of sight for a while. Practicing. Jimbeaux, as you and countless other pros have stated here..........many times, reitterating ------"you folks have got an incredible resource here--------

So.......that's what I've been doing.

It's a silent, scary place.

But I just played at our KofC Xmas party for less fortunate kids, and had a blast.

Kids are your greatest audience. They really are wide open, non-judgemental, and just full of life.

So....where was I? Oh yeah.......I believe there is a real easy way to get rid of the LOGON flag. A
simple click.

I just went thru the registry method as described in your link, and after all that, it still doesn't recognize the password.

I'm pretty certain I did all steps correctly - I printed them all out.

Well,

I "fixed" my password problem. I installed Eudora. I was using Eudora on the other pc, but this time around I figured I'd give OE another chance - maybe it got more user friendly - wrong again.

I like Eudora. Some sayn it's old technology, but it fits my speed just fine. No problems.

Hi Chip,
Last month I had exactly the same problem.
I kept reinserting my password a dozen times or so ,,,,still was not allowed to access my
email.
After one hour plus on the phone with my server support and doing all the trouble shooting they told me the problem was on my end and not theirs.
I then recalled that I had downloaded AWG
Virus Control software that morning to try it.(The free version). Already have Norton Internet Security BTW.
After deinstalling AWG my email came back to normal.
I don't know what settings you have on your
Anti-virus software but therein may lie your
answer?
Just a thought.

Did you mean AVG? I use AVG, too. I too took it off for a while to see, but didn't seem to matter. Thanks. (Eudora works just fine)

Yes Chip,,I did mean AVG. Sorry.
In my case I think there must have been a conflict with Norton and AVG pertaining to my OE ??
