eBay has a wide assortment to compare. Why not just play your rig and leave the pedals alone? I hate to see you invest alot of money when it's not really necessary. |

Good advice from Ray. Just because you have pedals is no reason why you MUST use them. Listen to (preferrably old) Hawaiian recordings. Try to get the feeling of what the (lap) players are doing. I'm sure most any Hawaiian purist could play a pedal guitar and achieve great sound without using the pedals. JMHO |

Several of us have been very impressed with the Gold Tone lap steel. It's a replica of an old Oahu lap steel. You should be able to get one for less than $300.
Do a search in the forum on "Gold Tone" and you will find a number of threads to read. For example: http://steelguitarforum.com/Forum2/HTML/002973.html |

Hmmmmmmm... regarding that Gold Tone lapsteel -- how does it compare tonewise to an old Oahu? I do like the old-style vibe it has looking at it, though, for roughly the same price on Ebay, a person could get an original Oahu from the 40's-50's.
Then again, if they sound as good, a new unit with a new case probably makes more sense, I suppose.

I am very pleased with my new Chandler Royal Hawaiian. Made in the USA. Beautiful tone, solid mahogany w/string thru pick-up. Great Art Deco Design, for just a few dollars more than the GoldTone. |

I'm quite pleased with my Rickenbachers and Shot Jackson FRY PAN. Greatest lap steels ever designed/manufactured. Easy and fun to play; accuracy guaranteed! Hard to screw up. |
