Free Database Program

Does anyone know of a good (and free) program to create and work with databases?

I can probably write one to do what I want but I don't want to spend the effort on it.

If your in Linux Land you can run SQL from about any distribution. You can probably do a search on the net and find a free SQL flavor for WinTel land too. SQL is high powered stuff.

If yer lookin' for an Microsoft Access clone try CNET or Downloads.com.

Gary,

MySQL is the "defacto" open-source "free" database system. It is mainly used in conjunction with PHP (a free open-source web scripting language). However, MySQL does not have to be used on the web...it can be used as an desktop application. http://www.mysql.org

Also, Oracle is free for "individual" users. I do not recommend this though. It is a very lengthy install process and you really need to know your "stuff" before you install this product. However, if anyone is interested it can be downloaded from the Oracle website. http://www.oracle.com

To give you a good "primer" on the SQL language, check out the W3 Schools site. http://www.w3schools.com/sql/

The industry standard is mySQL. It's open source and has very liberal licensing requirements. Available on Wintel, Linux, OS X, and various UNIX flavors.
