As regards the classic 419 scams, they may be useful for tracking down the source IP, if the full headers are intact. I sometimes LART (Loser Attitude Readjustment Tool) scams to the ISP's who are providing their Internet service, and also report them to SpamCop, if the email is not over one day old.

Once I get the source IP address I can also deny them access to the SGF.

Sometimes people get 419 scams because their email address was harvested from Forums, or scraped from their websites (if left in plain-text mailto: format), by harvester Bots, a subject which I pursue actively. Other times it may have been passed around by the other guys who were trying to scam our sellers. They may be selling your harvested names to other scammers, since they weren't able to close any check-kiting deals with our wisened-up sellers.

I also encourage anybody who is getting an annoying amount of spam, and wishes to do something about it, to signup for a SpamCop Reporting Member Account. Once submitted, spam sent to SpamCop is analyzed and all the upstream service providers are notified. This often results in termination of the spammer's email or web-hosting accounts. SpamCop is located at www.spamcop.net

Also, there is a more drastic solution which spam-fighters sometimes employ. It is located at http://friedspam.net. Since spammers usually invite us to visit the websites that they represent, why not consider honoring their request, over and over and over again. Winking If you choose to use this method, read everything on their website very carefully. Use of friedspam requires adding it to a different security zone than usual, and you also need to install Hide My Tracks, before they will allow you to use their service.

Many spamvertised websites have been sucked dry of their bandwidth allowance and terminated by their hosting providers, by visitors who were invited to come to them in spam emails, and who are doing so via Fried Spam.

But, I digress. Yes, you may forward any African based 419 scam email to me, as long as it is still fresh, and is sent to the email account listed on the SGF. If it is a kited check scheme, I am even more interested in seeing it, even if it is a couple of days old. I can still glean useful info about the Originating IP and do something about it. But, you must Forward the email to me, as you received it. If you just copy and paste the contents, the Headers will not be included (unless you are using a program like Mailwaher Pro to screen incoming email, and which can display the full headers and body in plain text).

Since people get a laugh out of my signature, I am including it below.

Let the hunt continue!
