When I joined the forum just recently I purchased Maurice's "Steel" Play'n Texas Swing album. This is just such a fabulous album and Maurice is one of the smoothest players alive ... combine that with western swing and it's a winner.
Does anyone know his tuning for the 12 stringer? It's not mentioned on the CD or his site.

Yes, it is a great album. I think his 12 string tuning is in the links/tuning part of the forum.

This is one of my ALL-TIME FAVORITE albums. I don't know how he finds some of those chords that he plays,w/o pedals,but he TOTALLY amazes me w/ what he gets. If y'all like THAT one,you're sure to like his,"STEEL WITH BRASS" album. I believe Reece could get music out of a cigar box,strung up w/ rubber bands across it.

Smiley, you are right on target. I have both the albums you speak of, and they are truly great musicianship. Reece is truly one of the finest pickers to ever sit down at a steel guitar...pedal, non-pedal, or the cigar box with rubber bands on it 
And from the few times I have ever spoken with him over the phone he seems like a true Texas gentleman.

both of you are right on the money. This album is unbelievably good and would sit there with my all time favourites too ... "Steel Guitar Holiday" by Herb Remington & Curley Chalker's "More Ways to Play" come to mind ... different directions but also wonderful.
I belonged to John Marsden's tape club (out of England) for a long time and one track that circulated was a live version of Reece playing "Secret Love" ... this recording has the same fluidity as his non pedal album. Unfortunately it's lost in a sea of tapes. Good steel guitarists like Reece can play pedal & non pedal guitar and sound wonderful.
I should have got the "Steel with Brass" album too! I will of course.

The "Steel and Brass" album is Boss!! I really like the version of Secret Love, Maurice shows just how at home the steel is in a modern jazz environment...awesome.

Maurice Anderson doesn't play anything that doesn't sound terrific! He's also a super nice person and always willing to help the novices. I know he influenced and helped me a bunch.
I have most of his albums, CDs and tapes. The best one by far is his recordings "The Universal Direction." It is a CD of Contemporary type Gosepl selections. It was recorded a few years ago, but it was way ahead of its time. It's a laveshly big production of choir voices, ochestration but the Steel Guitar is out front all the way. His playing is superb and as a Christian it is one of my favorite recordings to listen too. If you relate to anything about steel guitar outside of the Country Music sounds then this is a must for you.
If your not a Christian you can be one of us too. It doesn't cost you anything. You just ask and recieve JESUS CHRIST into your heart as your personal LORD and SAVIOR and I promise you that you will never be the same. Better yet GOD's WORD says you'll never be the same.
I wantta live forever and I don't wanta go to Hell, there ain't no exits there.
Get saved and get Reece's "Universal Direction," you won't be sorry you did.
