Today I booted up my XP to listen to some MP3 files and sound only came out of one speaker. Tried headphones got the same. Tried pluging into headphone jack at the back of the computer and got the same. I am using a Soundblaster sound card. Anybody know how to fix this?
Thanks,
Gary U

Check your sound control (sndvol32.exe I think) and see if the slider at the top for right/left balance for the line out has been moved all the way to one side. You should also have an icon for this thing in the lower right hand corner of your desktop.

1. Right click on the "speaker" icon in the lower righthand corner of the screen.

2. Click on "Adjust properties".

3. Click on "Advanced" in the "Device Volume" dialogue box.

3. Then as Ray said, see if the balance slider is all the way to the left (or right), in any one of the columns.

Note: if the balance sliders are all in the middle, I would imagine your sound card is defective and has lost that channel.

Hi Ray & Carl;
Thanks for your replies.
I went into my Control Panel and checked the audio settings which seemed fine. There was no "left/right" speaker balance option, so I guess the problem is in my sound card.
