Topic: CoolEdit... upgrade or replace? |

My laptop went down and I had to reformat the hard drive. Everything went okay with the backups, but my CoolEdit program needed to be unlocked with a code supplied online by Syrillium. No problem, until I find out online that Adobe purchased Syrillium a few months ago. They discontinued CoolEdit2000 (my program) with no further support, but have repackaged CoolEditPro as Adobe Audition.
So, even though I have CE2K on my desktop, my laptop will not have it. Adobe offers an upgrade to Audition for $99.
I used CE2K for editing and noise reduction on old vinyl, radio shows, etc., and for slowing down solos. Is there a program out there that does these tasks, or should I accept the admittedly great deal (Audition is a $300 program) and get a lot of what I don't usually use?

Are you sure that the upgrade will install on your laptop? If so, I'd say go for it.

| I've just done the exact thing you did, but I have a desktop pc. The upgrade for CEP2.0 is a free upgrade! Just register with adobe audition and give them your name and code, follow the intstructions. I'm still on dialup so it takes about 1 and a half hrs to download!! I like CEP2.0, it's easy to use and it work great for me. Let me know how it turns out for you! Denny |

I have CoolEdit 2000, not CEP2. Yes, the download is free for CoolEdit Professional.2, that you have. For those with Cool Edit 2000 (CE2K) or CoolEdit Professional.1, the upgrade is $99.
Well, it turns out that my laptop does not have a line-in jack, only a mic-in; while my desktop has a Soundblaster soundcard, the laptop (Sony Vaio) jacks are integrated onto the motherboard. Therefore, my inputting music from vinyl and tape can only be performed on my desktop. So even if I had the Audition upgrade, it would still be less than functional because of the hardware deficiencies of my laptop.

Hellol Have you tried Cakewalk? It does a lot of things with music. Slows clips and a lot more..Hope this helps.

| I use GoldWave, which I found out about on this forum. It is free as a trial version, but will only allow you to perform, I think, 15 operations each time before you have to close the program and re-open it. |
