Hi Mark
My niece downloaded a version of mIRC to chat with frinds I guess. But it's not showing up in my Programs list (I run win 2000 pro), and there's no desktop icon. Every time I reboot this thing opens up and sits there. I close it, go to "add/remove programs", and it's there twice! I try to remove the first one, and get told that it,s running and can't be deleted, but task mgr says it's not. I try removing the 2nd cop, and it works, but the add/remove program stops responding and I have to close it and reopen. Then it shows only one version. I remove that one, and think I'm cool, but when I reboot, it comes up again, and both copies are back in their spots...
Clearly this thing has gotten buried deep somewhere-but I think it's slowing me down and I want it to go away.
Got any ideas?
Thanks in advance
JB

JB,
Yeah, applications that get installed twice are a real pain in the you know what to remove. OK, try booting up your PC, but when it is loading, hold the SHIFT key durning the ENTIRE boot phase. You only need to hold the SHIFT key when you get into the Graphic Windows stuff, don't hold SHIFT during the DOS looking screen. Anyway, hold the SHIFT key until you are fully loaded. The SHIFT key will not load any applications at startup. Then go to your Add/Remove programs and look for the application. Try removing the first second one. Then after that is removed try removing the first one. If that doesn't work, you should try and boot up Windows 2000 and push F8 when you see that DOS looking screen at the beginning that has the progress bar across the bottom. This will get you into a menu in DOS. You should choose, "Boot into Safe-mode" and then try and remove the application then.
Give these idea's a shot and let me know. I still have a couple of more tricks up my sleeve, but you should try these first.
Cheers!
Mark

Hi Mark
Got it outta there finally. Still popped up in my start bar after deleting, but I found the taskmgr file in systems and deleted it and it's gone.
Thanks for your help!
