Aloha all,

Does anyone have any experience with buying "refurbished" equipment? I've found a "Dennon" that looks like a good model:

Or, my alternate choice is this new Sony:

My purpose for it will be to transfer Casettes to CD via the computer.

The price on the refurbished Danon is great for the all the Dolby features, but I'm hesitant since it's not new...I guess I'm thinking once a dud always a dud.

Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Two thoughts---I would certainly consider a refurb but only if sold as new--that is, with a full warranty. The 30 day deal on the Denon doesn't inspire confidence.
Also, a completely different issue...I swore that I would never buy another deck that didn't have pitch control. The last deck I bought, several years ago, is a decent working, decent sounding Pioneer. It runs reliably and consistantly but unfortunately it is significantly slow. Drives me crazy. Never again. Give me speed control or give me death.

Ron, Never buy a rubber band-driven tape deck. Always insist on direct-drive motors. I don't know if the Denon has direct drive or not but my Carver with direct drive has given me years of consistent service.
