Is Cindy Cashdollar the only person who has tablature or instructional materials for the G6 tuning on dobro ? I tried tuning to Stacy Phillip's book G6 tuning with the B and D for the 6th and 5th string but the B was too floppy with the .56 guage string I use. I think I'd prefer Cindy's GBEGBD tuning anyway since it involves only tuning one string up a whole step to get from standard G to G6 . I guess I could transcribe some songs from A6 and C6 to the key of G, but where the 1,3,5, and 6 are is probably on different strings for each .

Any tab for A6 will also work for your G6. I'm pretty sure Herb Remington offers quite a bit of A6 tab with CDs, or maybe cassettes. Also try Scotty's.

Good luck.

Several years back I had a book by Mike Auldridge with a floppy record I believe, maybe it was a 10". I am probably wrong but I seem to remember Oak Music or Publishing. It's been a long time. Mike had devised his own type of tablature that took some studying. There's no mistake about his prowress on a Dobro.

I too, play a resophonic in G6, and... a non-pedal steel in C6.

With the tuning you describe, the 1,3,5,6 notes for each tuning are on the same top 4 strings. Like this: lo to hi.

G B E G B D
A C#F#A C#E
C E A C G E

I found that I can forget about the key the tab is written in, as long as the 1,3,5,6 notes are always on the same strings. The tab shows the positions of notes on the fret board. Play the positions as shown without transposing. Learn where the I,IV,V chords are and then write down the key that you are actually playing in for future reference.

Hope this makes sense. I do it all the time.

I believe Mike Auldridge sells some tab for G6 on his web site. It's stuff from his 8 String Swing Album, which is a classic indeed. mikeauldridge.com
