I need to fly across the country and need to bring my dobro. I am afraid to check it as regular baggage. It's in a hard case, but I have heard stories of collapsing cones and the like. Does any one have any suggestion. Can I rent a dobro in Boston? |

Aaron,
I flew from San Francisco to St. Louis with a resophonic guitar in June and had no problem taking the guitar on the jet with me. You might want to call the airline ahead of time and verify that this won't be a problem for your particular airline.
The overhead bins are usually big enough for a regular guitar, whether resophonic or standard.
I flew with my reso in a Levy's bag case and didn't experience a single problem. I also saw lots of people in the airport with guitars.
As with any large item, be prepared to open it when going through security, and give yourself lots of time to get on the plane.
Have a great trip!

You might be able to get away with taking it on the plane, but if not, go to a music store and get one of the triangular boxes w/padding that high dollar guitars w/ case are shipped in. |

When I returned from last years Dallas show, I bought extra insurance. Twice the value of what I paid for the "Dobro." They had an attendant hand carry it and load it onto the plane. The insurance was cheap, the handling was delicate, and if by chance it were damaged, I would have been well compensated. |
