I have been doing a lot of solo gigs lately. I use background CD tracks, play my steel and sing as well.
I need three inputs, so I often use several amps, a small PA system etc. I have tried Keyboard amps, acoustic guitar amps and more, trying to find a simple setup that will give me a good steel tone with reverb, Full vocal sound (Shure SM58) and CD AUX inputs, all with separate tone and effects control.
Well I found it! I use my Fender Hot Rod Deluxe and get a great steel sound, and send this out of the effect loop to a small Yamaha Mixer with FX.
The Mic goes in another channel, the CD inputs as well, I even have extra inputs for my Buddy Dave to sit in.
The output of the mixer goes back into the amp effects loop return and works perfectly!
This way I have the warmth of clean and tube overdrive for the steel. The Mic and CD goes into the power amp section only and stays clean. I have full control over effects, tone and volume of each one. I only have to carry one amp for most gigs.
This should work for any amp with an effects loop.
