I would like some opinions on replacement speaker recommendations for a 1969 Fender Super reverb amp (Clearence White with a Tele). I want a good clean Fender. Weber or Jensen. Please let me know your opinions on what sounds good.
Thanks,
Lefty |

weber VST are the best IMHO
they have a nice P10Q model
i prefer alnico
they also have the economical ceramic replacements
i just put 2 into a 64 Vibrolux
if you can find a vintage set of Jensen P10Q's...that is a good way to go as well

I have restored 10 or so Super Reverb amps in the past few years. My favorite amps had a combo of alnico and ceramic speakers. The Weber Califoria ceramics and CTS Alnico I put in one just blew me away for tone. [This message was edited by Ken Fox on 17 October 2006 at 03:46 PM.] |

Email or call Weber directly. click
I ordered a pair of 10" Weber Vintage series speakers for my '67 Vibrolux a couple of years ago and they sound excellent. When I emailed Weber I got a very quick reply from Ted Weber. I also called and spoke to them about payment methods, etc.
Weber also recones speakers to original specs.

"Weber also recones speakers to original specs."
Not completely. They've cut back on their reconing, and you need to check their website to see which ones they will do.
That being said, if they CAN do it they are the best in the business, hands down. |

Derek Trucks uses old crappy Pyle Driver speakers in his main Super Reverb and they sound amazing.
I'd use a combination of speaker types.

Jensen has some very inexpensive speakers that mimic the originals. JP |

The Jensen reissues only mimic the Jensen part numbers. The speakers are completely different in construction...and the company is Italian - they simply bought the Jensen name, logo, and speaker designations and are making totally different things. |

I am not sure what they are putting in the new Fender Custom shop amps, but I just got a Vibrolux Reverb reissue that sounds absolutely fantastic for telecaster and even pretty decent for steel at low volumes. Both my old push pull and my '71 tele sound great through this amp, and previously I had not like the sound of tens for steel at all. My amp has the blue frame Jensen speakers in it, (are these Italian, Jim?) Whatever they are I love the sound of this amp for country, alt-rock, blues. Great amp.
Sorry about the topic drift, but if I were to blow out the speakers that are in there I would definitely want to have them reconed or get replacements from Fender. |
