My Goodrich (model 120)volume pedal has
been cutting out on me for the first time today. The volume will suddenly drop to almost nothing at times. After unscrewing the bottom plate everything looks fine. I tried it again and now it's working fine but I'm worried it will start acting up again. Anyone know what this might be and what causes it?

I would check the wires to make sure all connections are good and no bare wire touching something it shouldn't as the pedal is activated.

I can't tell you for sure what the cause is, but I can definately tell you the cure, HILTON!

After many hours of adjusting, cleaning, spraying, and everything else to my pot pedals, I finally went with Hilton and have not spent one minute or penny on repairs or adjustments since first getting the settings to my preferences.

Just plug it in and play.

With all due reverence for "vintage" gear, sometimes progress just is better.
Keith Hilton has brought the volume pedal into the 29th century. http://www.hiltonelectronics.net/

Hey thanks Mark. I just googled Hilton, and found the same link five seconds before you posted this. I will buy one soon. Thanks guys for all the help.

Mike. Check out the Goodrich LDR also. I have 3 of these, one for the recording studio, one for my steady church gig, and a floater for live use. Sometimes they pop up used on the forum. Lot's of players say that the sound of the Hilton and the Goodrich are both great.

Jimmy,I don't think its the cables. I checked that.
What was happening didnt seem to be a cord problem. The volume would diminish and then go to nothing, and then it would come back.Real twilight zone stuff. I think if it persists I will go with a new Hilton. Always wanted to try one anyway.

Sorry i should have said the chord inside the pedal, the one that turns the shaft on the pot.

David Collins and Mark van Allen- Thanks for the advice regarding the Hilton volume pedal. I did some research and it really seems to be the best volume pedal out there. I just ordered one from Billy Cooper along with a couple of George L cables.

I took a lesson from an experienced player who said he preferred the sound of pot pedals - that the tone roll-off (roll-on) was part of the authentic steel sound.

Perhaps he is just old-fashioned.

I'm inclined to go with a pot pedal, if only because it means one less wall-wart.

My Goodrich 120 cut out at the bottom of the travel. I had to replace the felt pad stop inside with a new one from the hardware store. It just gets pressed down over time.
