At the Convention, Sarah Jory used a blue
device on a string or two during one of her songs. What was it and how is it different from an ebow? I liked it and although I don't have an ebow or whatever it was she had, I would like to "play" around with one
or the other. So if anyone also knows where to get one, I would like to know and
how much they are. Thanks
I also thought the bass player in the jazz
room had great "chops"!

Looked and sounded like an Ebow to me, I think they still sell for around $80.00, sometimes cheaper on Ebay. I liked the song she used it on "My Heart Will Go On" from the movie Titanic. It just shows a little more versatility for the steel guitar.

I was not in St Louis, but I saw Sarah from the front row when she played in Worcester last year. She used a standard Mk 2 Ebow on "The Heart Will Go On" there.
Cheers

It was one of the newer E-bows. They change them from time to time. This one has a new feature, switch that causes the note to jump up an octave.

They make them not far from where I live.

If it was indeed an E-Bow, it was probably this two-octave model, currently available from Musicians Friend.

What did the Ebow do, make her guitar sound like a fiddle? I heard Ken Rollans at the Fiske Theater in Oak Grove use one, and it made his guitar sound kinda like a fiddle. are there any other special effects needed to get the fiddle sound besides the Ebow?

The Ebow is capable of fiddle, bagpipe, flute, and many other sounds. It takes a bit of skill and experience to get all the sounds out of it, and it helps to have a good digital delay for the bagpipe sounds; you create the bass drone notes then play over them. Phil Keaggy comes to mind as the guitarist most famous for using one. I have heard that BE used one, and I am certain that Chuck Campbell of the Campbell brothers uses one. I have used one since the early 80's, and love it. I might give a finger to get one of the multi note ones.
