| I feel a little simple minded for asking this, but how do you get the grill off of a Webb 614 in order to remove the speaker? Do I have to remove the chassis, or does the grill pop off with a little persuasion? |

| I'm not sure about the newer ones, but on the originals the grill popped out with a good yank to the corners. It can be helpful to remove the front chassis, though, to get better purchase on it. [This message was edited by Mike Fried on 24 June 2006 at 12:03 PM.] |

| You are probably past this by now but I just went and double checked and my Webb grill is a real tight fit and it has velcro so it makes you feel like you are forcing something that shouldn't be forced but that's all it is--friction and velcro. It's just a trick to find a finger/fingernail hold on it to work it loose. |

| I use a small pocket screwdriver to pry out one corner of the Grill from the velcro. |

I have a question that I'm always curious about every time I hear it mentioned! Why do perfectly good Amps., or for that matter; PSG's have to be taken apart so that they no longer function as intended? Yeah, I know! None of my business¡ I'd hate to leave this world, not knowing the answer!

Not sure if your question is regarding this post specifically John, but the speaker in my Webb amp can only be removed from the front. So the grill must be removed in order to remove the speaker (for a recone, for instance).
Tom Bradshaw asked that I post his offline response to my issue for the benefit of others. "Try this: Take off the lower left corner cover on the amp (this is the one on the right as you are looking at the front of the amp). There you should observe a hole drilled into the bottom of the amp's cabinet. You should be able to insert a round screw-driver (Phillips head). Once through the hole, you should be able to then push the grill cover off by pushing the screw-driver head against the inside of the grill cover.
If the hole isn't there, then the amp is older than I think. Let me know if this works (and the hole is under that corner cover). Thanks, ...Tom" |
