Anyone have any experience or opinions on this new Fostex model?

One of the things I wanted to do is transfer BIAB files from the PC to the Fostex. The .wav manual says that it will only accept 16 bit 44Khz mono files from the PC. I thought that the BIAB files had stereo samples recorded on them and I'm not sure of the bit resolution. Will this be a problem? Was also wondering if a Shure SM-57 with XLR input would work directly with low noise? Seems to be a lot of posts about home portastudios requiring separate mic pre-amps.

I just save the BIAB file to Wav. on my hard drive, burn a cd and load the file on my Boss 1180 workstation. Might be an easier way, but this works for me.

So I guess that's one of the advantages of having a CD drive attached to the recorder! Never thought of that! So many options and I know the business of hard drives, CD drives/burners etc has been hashed to death here, but this is a new Fostex model and maybe it has some nice features, priced at only $249. Sounds like so far it would need a USB drive attached and some more flssh memory, so maybe it's pretty hard to say it's really just a $249 machine.

The features list includes the following statements in the same list:

o USB port for stereo WAV file transfer to and from PC

o Free WAV Manager software available for multiple mono files transfer to and from PC

So I guess multiple files using the optional software is in mono, otherwise it does support stereo .wav files.
