Hello, I'm new to the forum, and just thought I'd give a little background inflamation on myself.I grew up in Chicago area,my first recollection of steel guitar was seeing Speedy West on the Tenn.Ernnie Ford Show.My grandmother used to go to Hawaii quite often in the early 60's and bring back Hawaiian music. There it was again steel guitar, much sweeter sounding than Speedy's.So while my friends listened to Hendrix I listened to Hew Len I was an oddball.I moved to Hawaii in 1990 ,I was in heaven.Hawaiian music in every elevator and hotel lobby.I got a Beachboy job on Waikiki, surfed before and after work. After surfing I'd paddle in and lay on my board and listen to the music at the Halekulani.Took lessons from J.B. played in front of people at HSGA convention in 1993.Thus ending my career as a steel guitarist.Soon after I started playing slack key, much easier to learn.Just a few months ago I discvered Hank Williams, better late than never. So I'm back at it.Well enough about me,are there any steel players in the Ft.Lauderdale area? I'll be back.

I grew up in WPB ... "lived" at the Mai Kai ... been there much

Anyway, Ed Mayer lives in Sunrise. He grew up with Rudi Wairata and played bass for him. Tell him I said "Howdy"...and get him to sign up for the Forum.
