I suppose I'll look around, but these things are getting to be a PITA.
I always tend to pick up the amp with the face toward me since that is how it is always set down.
I already broke the reverb knob, and the other ones have been bent and always seem to peg one way of another before I get it to the gig.
Maybe Allparts, or Radio shack.
I'll look around.

One time I was helping roadie for a band and I got scolded for carrying a guitar amp with the knobs facing my leg. He said "you never carry an amp that way!". So I've gotten in the habit of carrying an amp with the knobs facing out. So now my leg won't knock the knobs off, only everything else I bump into will.

I always make it a point to carry my amps with the knobs away from me. I haven't broken a NV112 knob - yet - but I plan on building a new cabinet, after our "playing season" is over that will protect the knobs a little better than they are now. |

I allways carry my 112 with its padded cover
to the spot I will set up and then remove the
cover.. have not bent or broken a knob yet.
I got one of those Tuki covers but there is a
guy on the forum understand has grate padded
ones.

Well I've always been a Bad Dog, so that's just the way I seem to pick it up and carry it. Usually I just want to GTF out of there....
I picked a bunch of small screw on low profile Radio Shack knobs. I think I'll file the stems down if I need to and wedge the slots and see how far down I can get them.

Eric,
I always use a cover with my amps. This protects them some, and if you have the Peavey cover, the name is on the front, so you know. If you have a cover made, mark the front. The knobs still get bumped a little, but not as bad. Such a great amp and poor design...don't know what their reason was/is. I saw or read about a cover somewhere that has a hard surface (like thin wood) made into it. Good luck!! |

IMHO, the "cut out" above the knobs is there so a player can see them while sitting very close to the amp. I don't think Peavey expected this amp to become such a popular "gig" amp...but, rather, a bedroom practice amp.
I agree the knobs situation is a serious pain, but, I like Eric's solution best of all. Now, if only Peavey would offer a mod kit like this, those who really need it could get it, or send it to Mike B. for upgrade.
C'mon Mike...what say you? |

I believe Mike explained it quite well. If you notice on the front of the "112", it states that it was designed to be used as a "studio amplifier". The fact that many of us, (I myself now use two,)discovered it to be a great little gig amp may have been unexpected...My solution to the knob problem was as follows: I cut two strips of thin high density foam the width and length of the panel board and glued them to the inside front of the covers. They not only protect the knobs during transport, but also resulted in a more snug fit. (BTW, I may have mentioned this in a previous post, but an old Nashville 400 cover fits a 112 perfectly if it is shortened slightly.) |

The cabinet/front panel on a Nashville 1000 is made the same way. I don't recall anyone having this problem with a Nashville 1000. I've also seen other amps, other than Peavey, that were basically the same way - the front panel not recessed in the cabinet.
Although I plan on building a new cabinet that will recess the front panel this summer - mainly as a "make work" project I don't really see this as a global problem. There may be isolated cases but personally since I know there's a potential I take extra precautions to help prevent any damage. I've use this amp on the road, without a "road case", the last two February's without a problem. |
