I am going to put a few 1/4" mono jacks onto my Anvil case rack.

What is the best way to protect the solder connections "inside" the rack. Give me some ideas here guys...

Do you use small project boxes to enclose the connections ..protecting them? Do you use a special type of jack that is more sturdy than the regular old jacks most use.

I want to do this so this set up will last and so thatthe connections do not break.

ANY ideas or photos (preferred) that demonstrate what you all do would be welcomed.

THANKS!!!!

I always use the plastic, enclosed style jack, and use heat shrink tubing over the solder connections.

On my (plastic) SKB case, I put the jacks inside the handle wells where they absolutely can't be scraped off. If you place them carefully, they (hopefully) also won't scrape the skin off your knuckles. So far so good.

Darvin,

Where can I find about 5 of those plastic jacks?

I already have the heat shrink tubing of various sizes.

That is what I am talking about...sound like it would work great.

I mount mine on a metal recessed jack plate and then use a metal electrical switch box to cover the jacks. The switchbox, because it's physically attached to the metal jack plate is thus grounded through the jacks to the equipment and the metal switchplate acts as a "shield" for the jacks. I have one jack plate near the AC power jack but because of the "shield" there is no AC hum induced into the audio jacks.

I use the standard open frame Switchcraft jacks.

A good place to find those recessed jack plates as well as many kinds of jacks and lots of other odds & ends is Markertek.com. Another great source (maybe better) is Parts Express.

I do it about the same as Jack does it. I mount the jacks in the metal cover of a wall receptacle box. Using a metal box and cover, shields the wires to minimize hum. Go to my website, look under "my equipment". You will see my rack with the receptacle box. The box has 2 jacks (in and out) and a switch mounted to the cover plate. The switch is used to switch the input from the FX-in to the tuner-in.
