I have a session 500 with JBL in it. This is the best sounding amp I've ever had, but you know the weight story. I'm thinkin of sellin the session 500 and gettin either a session 400, a Nashville 400, or a Nashville 112. which would you get for best tone? I've had a session 400 and know they are hard to beat, I've never owned a Nashville 400, or Nashville 112. The 112 would be nice as far as weight, but I'm a little skiddish about the 12" blue marvel. which would you choose?

I played through a Session 500 from 1981 to 1996. I too thought the 500 was the best steel amp Peavey had built.
I also had a reissued Session 400 LTD as a 2nd/backup amp but could never get it to sound the way I wanted - the Session 500 spoiled me with the Parametric Mid EQ system. The Session 400 models use a different EQ system.
If you need power, go for the Nashville 1000 if not the Nashville 112 is a great little amp, both use the same identical preamp and it's basically the same as the Session 500 as they have the Parametric mid EQ. I've got both a 1000 and 112 and haven't used the 1000 since I got a 112 in February of last year. There hasn't been anywhere that I've worked that I needed anything more (the bigger venues miked everything so the 112 was still all I needed). I used the 112 on Tour last year with George Hamiton IV and this year the entire month of Feb was on tour with Tommy Cash and all I used was the 112. |

Separate the 500 head from the speaker box and carry two pieces. You get to keep the sound you like, each piece is lighter.

Yes you can separate the head from the Cabinet but now you have an extra peice to lug around. I had a Nashville 400 and I bought the nashville 112 and I sold the 400 as soon as I heard the sound I'm getting out of the 112.It is a lot lighter and I love this smaller Amp.

The 112 will even sound good with your strat, and don't worry about the blue marvel, it will suprise you, but you will have to give the speaker a little time to break in. For what you get for the cost is hard to beat if your talking new.

112 all the way! I play with an '81 Session 500, and the 112 gives it a run for it's money! I was skiddish of the 12" speaker, but MAN this thing has got all the tone and all the volume I need. I've never had it crack or distort, and it'll blow the walls down. My Session hasn't seen the light of day since I got my 112. I've thought about selling the 500 and getting another 112. You can't go wrong with the 112.

Terry, I would try the 112 before selling the 500. I own a 112 as well as a Sessions 400 and N1000. The 112 is really a great amp as many say, but in my ears it's just not quite as rich as the bigger speakers. To me it just doesn't have the body I like to hear.

Yes, James
I feel the same way, I have a session 400 also and have been playing my 112 for a few jobs now. I can't quite get that full body sound I want yet. The jury is still out in that respect. Other than that its a super little amp and a dream to carry, even my wife can carry this one. |

Try 2 NV112's side by side or stacked. That's a fat sound.

My favourite amp is my Nashville 1000, but lugging it around gets old. My Nashville 112 doesn't have quite the fullness of the 1000, but it is one hell of an amp.
Buy one, you can always sell it on the Forum.

Brad, or anybody.
A question for you, would I need two 112's for that full sound or could I get it with just another pair speakers? |

Nashville 112 for sure, but also if you can, get an old Evans Fet 500 LV like I recently did, you'll be very pleasantly suprised. With the Eminence Eclipse 15 inch speaker as mine has, it it not hard on your back at all, and has tone to die for.....anybody else on here agree with me????

I really appreciate all the replies. I'll have to sell my 500rd to buy the 112. But my hope is, sometime in the future, I'll be able to buy another 112 and run stereo.

Want to fatten up your 112 sound? Keep it on the floor! Tilt it back, but keep it on the floor. |

Yep, extra speakers from the 112 would't do it for me either. But the two amps lined together did. thanks for the emails. |

Like Terry and Hugh I too was Skittish
But after the speaker "ran in" I simply loved the Warm Rich sound. I now use two and although the second amp gives me more separation with the stereo effects, and more headroom, I don't notice much difference in the 'Bottom End'

The more you use the 112 the better it sounds, so break it in before you don't like it.

Terry, I believe that you have gotten many angles/opinions about the Nashville 112 on this Forum. Thanks for your consideration of Peavey steel guitar amplifiers. It "is" an amazing amplifier. |

Thanks Mike. I know all these great steel players can't be wrong. I'm sure I'll like the amp.
