Tubes are going to produce the natural harmonics that sound better, but they're heavier, take more "care" to run well, and if one goes out, you gotta replace the power tubes in pairs. You'll have to worry about a standby switch for the poweramp so the proper powerup and powerdown syntax is followed, and they're really heavy. Did I mention that they're heavy?

But either way, send me that MosValve 1500 and we'll call it even for the advice. I need a spare.

Gary,
The Mosvalve 1500 is a great sounding amp for very little money ....There are tube amps that WILL sound sweeter than your 1500, but you will pay good money to hear them !!...It's all a matter of how much money do you want to spend, and how much maintainance to you want to deal with along with how heavy it can all get ...Not to mention how warm things might run ...... I have a number of solid state amps, and have even more tube amps...
Certain Solid State amps like Webb, Mosvalve , Steel King ....Great sounding amps for very little money ( under $1,000)
Tweaked Twin Reverb, VHT 2/90/2 w/ nice 15 inch cabs, and a good sounding preamp.....Same with many other rigs....The tone is IMHO is better than ANY solid state amp, but you will be paying over $1,000 for a setup ....I would and do prefer a good tube setup to a good Solid State setup any day of the week, but the lines are narrowing .....I have no problem playing out of my Webb, my Steel King, or my Mosvalve ......They all sound really good, but a good tube setup will sound better, but like I said earlier, you will pay for it ....I've said it before, and I will say it again ....You will pay twice or three times more for an amp that will sound MAYBE 15 % better ......That last 10% of tone that takes a good tone, and turns it into a GREAT tone will cost you at least twice the money ..... Like I asked in your Revelation thread .....How much is your tone worth to you ?..........Jim

I really like my Mesa 20/20. It only takes one rack space, isn't too heavy and sounds lucious through a pair of alnico Tone Tubbies.

b0b,
You know what they say about smokin those left handed cigarettes ?.....You only THINK that you sound better ? ....Are you sure you're not sitting too close to those hemp cones on the Tone Tubbies, and when you're rockin out , and they're getting hot and emitting smoke, that you are injesting , and you only THINK that you sound good ? ..... .....Sorry, I couldn't resist !!.....Just a little hippy humor !!.....
