I'm looking for suggestions for a small, lightweight, maybe AC and battery powered steel guitar amp suitable for playing in a living room. I've been using an old Magnatone Custom 440 (to be sold to finance the new one), but it is not well suited eq-wise for steel; and my StereoSteel is just too nice for the job. |

I've heard good things about the Roland Cube amp, but that's mostly from rockers. Not sure how a steel would help that.

Hi David,
there is a Pignose for sale in the For Sale Amps & Accessories section of the forum. They're battery powered. BTW, when you're ready to sell your Magnatone please let me know...I'm a big Maggie fan.

I've got a Roland Mini Cube I bought for my wife, if you can believe that... It's really great, and I was thinking of trying it with the steel, even though I can't believe it would do well with such a small speaker and only one tone control, when used with an S12.
As for the Pignose, I will have to check one out in real time at the local store.
Cliff, I'll keep you in mind for the Maggie. It was totally restored from 40 years of use/abuse; right down to a NOS Oxford recone. I've also got a huge amount of various brand NOS tubes for those who can actually hear a difference.
JD Stratly from Vintage Guitars and Amps did the work, matching the Tolex 'n stuff. Replaced all the pieces parts whose values had drifted; decided he liked the way it sounded before, and put the old ones back in.

David,
That's interesting about the old parts / drifted values. I bet it got's that great Magggie tone. Please do keep me in mind, it sounds like an awesome amp.
