A friend has come across a 1993 or 94 Fender Blues Deville that's been stored in a damp basement for a decade. The tweed is moldy and dirty. Speakers look and sound fine. Electronics are working too.
My question is: is this thing worth 200 bucks?
Any help and opinions are welcome. Thanks!
P.S.: any tweed and tolex restoration experts out there? |

I just paid $400.00 for a Blues Deville. Of course it wasn't damp or moldy. There seems to be a lot of sources for custom cab etc. here on the forum. I think they are great sounding amps. |

It's definately worth $200 if everything works. Just take some soap and water and a mild scrub brush to it. If that doesn't yield satisfactory results, recover it with tweed or the vinyl of your choice and it's still a deal. I play a G&L ASAT thru one on blues and R&B gigs and they're as good as most "boutique" tube amps costing a helluva lot more. I saw Robin Trower a few years ago at the House Of Blues and he played a Strat thru 2 of them. It was an awesome sound.

If you can get the tweed cleaned up, I would recommend spraying it with a clear nitro lacquer. You can get it in spray cans from www.stewmac.com and it should keep the tweed from deteriorating. The original tweed amps and cases were done that way. My opinion is that the amp is well worth it. |

Thanks all for the good advice.
It looks like my friend will be giving this neglected puppy a new home. |
