I used to use nylon cord that actually melts when you put the tip in a flame. after cutting if you flame the end it can't fray on you. You probably can find it at an old fashioned high level hardware store, not Home Depot or Lowes. This is depending on where you live. The last hardware store finally closed here in Albuquerque. So lately i buy everything on the Internet. You can probably find something like that online. I use a Hilton pedal now with no pot at all. Works alot better.

Henry,
Braided mason's twine is good to use. Don't use the twisted, it doesn't work! I happen to have about 240' of it on hand. Be glad to mail you some if you like. Just email me your snail mail address.

Roger, you can open a pedal repair shop. When business gets slow, you can also take in some kite jobs. When you're ready, let me know if you need a partner. I'm a heck of a sweeper and have my own torch to cut the string.

Use Bow string. It's available from your local archery shop, and it will outlast anything a musician's parts house has.
