I'm looking for a rack mount acoustic preamp. I've searched with 3 different browsers and not coming up with anything. Can anyone give me some idea? Are the only acoustic preamps in stomp boxes? Many thanks for any help.

Brads's is a nice piece of gear, but has no EQ or other control facilities.

I am very fond of the old AudioArts 4100 4-band parametric EQ, it has a fabulous FET preamp and four fully parametric bands of EQ and sounds smooth as silk. Watch ebay and you can get them for under $200.00

Rane made a very nice acoustic preamp I believe it was called an AP13. Owned for for many years until one day GAS caught up with me and I traded it for something useless. Every now and then they pop up used but the usually sell pretty fast.

If you can live with a stomp box design the LR Baggs Para-DI is very nice as well for around $140.00.

This is not a rack mount, but I have a Boss AD-5 that works really well. It has effects and notch filters for feedback supression. Barcus Berry and Rane both used to make rack mounted acoustic preamps. These pop up on Ebay pretty often.

Dave, the link I put up was for the Revelation Tube Preamp, not the Black Box. It actually has 4 bands of EQ with a sweepable midrange dip that really helps dial out that typical honk or bark that you get with an acoustic instrument pickup. Even though it's voiced like an old Fender in a way, it's actually a very musical EQ that works great for acoustic stuff.

The Baggs Para DI is pretty flexible, almost too flexible for some people. The little SansAmp Acoustic DI is really a great sounding little acoustic DI. These are pedal sized though, not rackmount.

I would highly recommend that an electrified acoustic player check out Brad's Revelation Preamp which has absolutely magnificent EQ. I have one and it is the real deal for Steel and acoustic instruments. Chock full of "tubey goodness"! And it's half the price of the Pendullum unit.

A few years ago I bought a Crate rack mounted acoustic amp that worked out quite well.

Sorry Brad, I'll have to check it out, the AA units are getting hard to find and if the Revelation has your 12AX7 front end, well, 'nuff sedd!
