I've been hearing great things about the True Tone pickups but from what I understand they won't fit an MSA Classic (pre metal pickup surround model) without some major routing work.

When I bought my guitar it had this pickup in it which I don't think is the original and I wondered if anyone could identify it - is it a Sho-Bud?

Three mounting holes have been drilled outside of the pickup cavity - presumably because the replacement was wider than the original pickup. I would be interested to know if the modifications made to accomodate this pickup would also allow for a True Tone to be swapped in without further "butchering". The dimensions of the pickup cavity are 4" x 1 1/8".

Thinking back to my limited experience of woodcraft at school I would be very nervous of taking a router to my guitar!

Jonathan,
I would think that the best route would be to contact Jerry Wallace himself to see if one of his Truetone's will do the trick.
Jerry is a great guy and can do just about anything!
