So my new Pod XT is working its way to me through the UPS system, should be here by mid next week. What’s the best way to hook it up to my equipment? The steel guitar output runs to a Matchbox7A and from there to a Nashville 112. Where do I hook the Pod?

If there are previous message threads on this, please let me know. I did a search but didn’t find anything on the particular topic.

Thanks.

Jerry

First there are lots of threads on the POD XT.

The first thing you should do is download the "Line 6 Monkey", which is the update program. Then update the firmware in the POD XT to the latest (usually, they ship with old firmware and the updates add to the unit). Also download the Line 6 Edit program as that is where you can load/save programs or the entire program bank.

There are some steel programs on my web site and they can be loaded via the Line 6 Edit program (and either a USB or MIDI connection to the PC). They are a good start and I've heard from several that are using the programs. http://web.tampabay.rr.com/jstoner1

I use mine as an effects processor and connect it between my Hilton Volume Pedal and my Nashville 112 amp.

Jack, what settings do you use when you just want to use the POD as an effects processor? That's what I would like to do without having to add amp or speaker models to the sound. I've had my PodXt for a year now and to tell the truth, I'm not real impressed with it for the steel guitar. But I am impressed with the lineup or effects models.

The programs I use are listed on my web site (the link that Lee provided).

If you don't have the latest firmware for the POD XT, I suggest you get it as it adds to the unit.

As noted in my programs, my main program is just delay and reverb effects only, no amp or speaker modeling.

If I click on any of those links, I just get a listing of a few letters, a bunch of question marks, some more letters, some more question marks, and so on that make no sense. I am going to assume I need to access them through the line 6 software, so I'll give that a try. I basically want to see how it is done so I can create my own.

By the way Jack, thank you for all you do for this forum. You have helped me several times and you are a great asset to the forum.

Richard, you will have to download the files then load them to your POD XT using the Line 6 Edit program. They are actual programs, not a "program listing".

Here is a great way to start. If you have a typical amp set up, set it up the same way. Then turn all the effects/reverb off. Go to acoustic sound on XT. THis will be a very transparent sound. There are many other good ones as well. But this one is clear and uncolored. Set the reverb to taste. I recommend you use the mike stand and adaptor that is available from Line 6 (but keep duct tape on hand for when it wants to fall off- I modified mine with velcro semi permanantly). If you set the pod up near your Right Hand you should be able to edit sounds live effortlessly. I have two amps with a power amp in and I still prefer to go in through the front of the amp; i.e.: the pre-amp for fast live edits. All the suggestions above are great. The bottom line is how is works for you. But I would at least try the mike stand if you want to use the XT live. Mine took a couple of spills before I added the velcro. I also like the floor distortions for pedal steel rather than the simulated amp overdrives. To get control of volume, use the level control in the comp/gate section.

JAck, I managed to download your programs. I have downloaded the Monkey, edit and driver downloads from Line 6. But when I try to install EDIT, i get an error that it can't download the Java Runtime Environment (I am still connected to internet at the time). So, edit will not run. I have contacted Line 6 to find out what to do. You mentioned you have a 15" cabinet model. Where did you get that?

I'm sorry if I am hijacking this thread. I think this is info the poster may appreciate too.

The 15" cabinet model was part of a firmware upgrade for the POD XT

The programs on my site, that use a preamp have the 15" speaker model. But, if you are just using it as an effects processor then you won't be using a preamp or speaker model.

You will have to download and install Java. I don't think that is a download from Line 6.

Thanks to all for your responses. I will hook the Pod XT up between the volume pedal and the NV112. Jack – I’ll make sure to download the programs from your web page – thanks for the info. According to FedEx, the package should be arriving late Wednesday afternoon, so I guess I know what I’ll be doing on Wednesday night…
