I'm currently using a Lace soundhole pickup in my acoustic lap steel, but it's so far from the strings that it doesn't have much gain unless I plug in a preamp. What are some other soundhole pickups that would work better? I'm sure a Sunrise would do the trick but it's out of my budget. How about the old DeArmond's from the '60's? |

Those old DeArmonds sound good, but they don't sound like an acoustic guitar, and they're probably priced in the "vintage" range by now. Without knowing your budget, the Fishman rare earth is an excellent soundhole pickup. Very small, so it doesn't get in the way, and it does not sound like an under-saddle quacking piezo! |

You should do some research on the "Sunrise" sound hole pickup. I have one in my Superior Weissenborn and I like it a lot. |

George L's makes a very good pop-in pickup.
The best,IMHO, is the Sunrise soundhole pickup.
