There is a nice looking bakelite Ric on ebay due to close on the 31st. The fellow had it listed as "1940's" but the headstock says "Rickenbacker" instead of "Rickenbacher". I think the spelling change was made in 1953, but I can't find any definitive info. I emailed him that I thought it was post 1953, but couldn't find the info to be sure. He wrote me back that he bought it in the 1950's after seeing Bill Haley and the Comets and would like to be as correct as possible in his posting. The ebay item # 853931371 if anybody is interested in bidding or helping him with info.

Hi Aaron. The most significant features that will distinguish this guitar from a 'holy grail' ('pre-war') Rick are the smaller 1 1/4" pickup this appears to have (vs. the 1 1/2" pu) and the tailpiece--the prewar Rick had the strings go thru the body--this does not. Yes, it is a later Rick. Could it still be 40's? You seem to know more than me re: the date of the logo change.
$476 and the reserve's not met.
JD Sauser's the man for Bakelite Rick info.

Thanks for mentioning JD's name and rattling my memory, Jon. I did a search under his name and got lots of info which I sent the fellow. Pretty guitar, isn't it?
