I've fooled Bluegrass pickers with my Goodrich MatchBro. I did a session for a local singer and used the MatchBro, he played it for a Bluegrass musician friend and he didn't believe it wasn't a Dobro until he brought him to a live job we had and I had to show it to him and play using it.

But, the key is to think and play Dobro, not steel guitar.

My MatchBro is one of the original models that has a MatchBox and tone control in the bypass position.

If you're willing to drop the bucks on the SuperBro or MatchBro, have at it. In the meantime, someone posted somewhere on this board that they take stomp box eq and alternate the sliders full up and full down. I didn't really believe it until I tried it. Actually sounds sort of like the simulator.

I use a Boss GE-7 pedal. Lowest freq (100Hz) is all the way down, next one all the way up, next one down, etc. Perfect? No, but in a pinch, for about $200 less than the simulator...

Bobbe Seymour is taking a Boss pedal and doing some modifications to it and turning it into a dobro simulator. Might be worth a try.

Those little plastic m&m holders sound dobroey in a pinch, and also great to hold your 7/8 bar.
