I just got finished installin' the George L 10-5 pickup with 5-way switch into my Sierra Laptop 8.....had to do somethin'....the Frypan with the "big shoes" was gettin' all the play.

The problem was that the first generation Sierras don't have any room for the switch...the new Sierras are routed out on the players side. Since I always keep the volume and tone pots wide open anyway(I use a Hilton pedal and control the tone with my amp)....I used that space for the selector. I don't mind runnin' straight to the jack (I did the same with the frypan)... extra punch.

I haven't played it enough to report on the differences....just enough to see everything works. It does

Here's what the installation card said:

#1 Full Coil Humbucking 16K
#2 Split Coil Humbucking 12K
#3 Full Single Coil 8K
#4 Split Single Coil 6K
#5 Parallel-Series 10K
#6 Inductance-Capacitance Infinity
Coupling

Went in pretty easy...

Howdy OJ...I'll answer ya here so it will make more sense to anyone else interested.

I just spent a good 2hrs with the new pickup...what fun...

#1 is the same as the original pickup...sounds better now that I am runnin' straight to the jack...but I liked it the least (today anyway).

#2 is pretty cool...full sound ... not as "heavy" as #1

#3 was my favorite today... very responsive to the attack...crisp

#4 was similar to #3 but thinner.

#5 was interesting...kinda "glassy" like my Rick Silver. Very unusual.

This was a fun experience...Like everyone I suffer from "Auditory Fatique" (similar to Olfactory Fatique...you know..when you walk into a pizza joint and it smells soooo good..then 10 minutes later ya can't smell it anymore)...well this 5 way pickup takes care of that...flip the switch ... different "guitar"..very fun.

I got a couple emails today about givin' up the pots ... You don't have to sacrifice both tone and volume positions..only one..I just opted to go straight to the jack.
