This may be in the wrong place, BUT---Any of you guys ever bought one of those 49.95 amp cases on eBay? There's a couple of companies that sell them, but the ads all look the same---anybody wanna stop me, before I buy one? |

I've seen those cases on eBay. My gut tells me that you get what you pay for. A good road case costs an arm and a leg when you need one and you can't get rid of them when you don't. In my experience you don't buy a road case so much to protect the amp/instrument but to know that it's gonna work when you get to the next show. How much should you spend on that kind of piece of mind? You're call… |

Steve, I bought one of these mixer cases, added hinges and a good handle and use to transport a POD XT Live, cables, guitar stand, etc. It is light-duty but everything is square and fits. I would look for the ones with the recessed butterfly latches now available. You might want to add a layer of carpet or other padding but for the price, it's better than a slip cover. If you add casters, you will probably want to make a plywood board for the casters and attach that to the case.

I've seen most of the "budget" cases on Ebay. I would not trust a $2500 steel, or a $1500 amp in most if not all of them. Very thin wood with a thin vinyl/plastic covering almost like contact paper. The padding consists of felt. Ultra cheap hardware. If you can buy it with a return guaranty, that's cool.
Keep in mind, this might not describe all the new cases on Ebay, just some of the lesser expensive ones I've seen. If you want a case for weekend warrior work, they might work, but if you want stage hands to load it onto a bus or trailer, or forklift, don't do it.
Good luck,
Dave |
