I finally picked up a used PF 2. It's supposed to have Newman (123) presets. They seem to be spread out and duplicated throughout. Is there an official list of the Newman/ Peterson presets anywhere?
Also, Is there a good sysex program to dump/ load these programs?
thx,

The Newman programs are listed on my site.
There are a lot of duplictions in the programs or a program name change but the actual program is the same as another one.
The Peterson programs are for a Transtube Feb/Tube Fex and will not work on a Profex II. I have my Transtube Fex/Tube Fex programs listed that I used on my web site too.
The reason most TT Fex/TubeFex programs will not work is they have an Analog preamp that the Profex II does not have, and there are several effects that are not in the Profex II. The Profex II programs will work in a Transtube Fex/Tube Fex but you defeat the main advantage of these units, the Analog preamp.

Bob, if you got the Profex II from Lavelle the settings are not duplicated although some of the names are the same. It has some of the same settings with a varying amount of mix on some of the effects but mainly some of the programs with same names have the EQ's removed and the mix and outputs reversed so it will not overdrive a combo amp. If you pull up a setting and there is no EQ (3B, 4B, etc) that setting is better for a combo amp. The ones with the EQ still in the chain are to be used without another pre-amp (rack set-up). You should find plenty of good sounding settings in it for either a rack sysem or a combo. I hope this helps.

I have created a batch of settings with Newman and Peterson settings both for the Profex 2. As Jack said some will not work. The ones I have put in work well. I just put them in spots where there were duplicated Newman settings.
I load these on request for folks getting a memory chip upgrade. |

They are system exclusive messages. The Profex and Bassfex are the same SYSEx ID. The Tubefex and Transtubefex are different so the Fex Manager program over on the Tubefex Forum will not work. You might try to get in touch with the writer of that program amd see if he is interested in generating a version compatible with the Profex 2 and Bassfex. The old Profex 1 is also SySEx and different from the rest. I use a Peavey Midi Streamer for all my SySEx dumps and uploads. It uses a 3.5" floppy. Its format is not compatible with a MSDOS based system! I even use it for songs I write on my Roland DR-5 and then the Midi-Filer can make the Roland playback!
The nice thing about the Midi Filer is you can dump a single preset to it if you want. Also you can dump by groups. That is covered well in the Profex 2 manual.
There is a Peavey Midi-Filer on Ebay now. Beware, it has a memory battery too! I keep a fresh one in mine all the time. Someday I will take a look and see if the memory chip can be upgraded to batteryless.[This message was edited by Ken Fox on 16 September 2005 at 07:58 AM.] |
